McDonald's New Chicken Crispy or Grilled McWraps

These new wraps are meal size unlike the already available wraps which are snack size.

For awhile these new wraps were only $1 with the price of a drink, which is only $1.

You pull and tear this tab and then you can stand it up and eat it right out of the package.  Very convenient.

The sauce is a creamy garlic spread, ranch, or a spicy chili flavor.

You can choose crispy or grilled chicken, with bacon or ranch.

These are tasty and filling and interesting.  They get my approval.  Healthier than a greasy burger and much tastier.  A nice and welcome change.

Burger King Donut Holes

Burger King is following Wendy's and other fast food restaurants by revamping its menu and offering new things.  Turkey burgers, veggie burgers, new Whoppers, chicken nuggets, and now the holes of donuts.  They were good, not to sweet, fluffy, almost like a slightly glazed mini roll.  They stuck to the packaged as you can see by the picture so a fork, provided, is necessary.  I probably wouldn't have them again unless I had a coupon or they were cheaper due to a promotion or something.

Burger King Chicken Nuggets

McDonald's, excuse me, Burger King has released Chicken McNuggets, excuse me, Chicken Nuggets.  They are tasty, but they are almost completely identical to the McDonald's version.  Even down to giving only two sauces, any more are extra.  Previously, when I have ordered chicken strips or chicken fingers they gave me all the sauces I've wanted, but now they are copying McDonald's policy of only giving 2 packets for 10 pieces of nugget.  They are all white meat as are McDonald's now.  They are very tasty and sure to be a hit.  But then I like McDonald's whereas most people I know who prefer Burger King might not like them so who knows?  Try them!

Limited Edition Oreo Mega Stuf

These are yet another entry in the Oreo family.  Oreo now has brownies, chocolate covered cookies, and multiple versions of its stuffing inside two cookies.  This version, Mega Stuf, is for those that love the stuffing better than the cookie.  It is simply double stuffed with a single stuff on top.  It's good, but I think I prefer double stuffed.  If you are a cookie person they have some with regular stuffing and three cookies.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Original Recipe Bites

These new boneless original recipe KFC bites are 6 for $3.99.  This probably will change as this price is a promotion to push this new product.  You can choose a dipping sauce but it comes with a little dish of gravy that seems slightly different than the gravy for the mashed potatoes.  It's a lighter color.  Here is what it really looks like:

These new bites are very tasty but not filling.  6 pieces is simply a snack, not a meal.  With the gravy they are not too healthy.  Stick with the grilled chicken.  If these were served over a salad it would be more filling. If I go to KFC I usually go all the way and get extra crispy chicken.  More chicken, more breading.  These are simply a tasty snack.  Worth a try.  Unlike eating 2 or 3 of the bigger pieces of chicken, these don't give me a headache.

Pho Rice King Noodle House

TASTE

PRICE

APPEARANCE

Pho (pronounced fuh) is a Vietnamese soup that cooks and simmers at high heat and when meat is added then the noodles it is cooked to perfection and full flavor.  Rice King Noodle House is located in downtown Provo, Utah on University Avenue and cooks up a great dish of Pho.  Pictured is beef pho.  The chicken pho is also delicious and the tripe is tasty as well.  There are many other combinations with meat and vegetables.  The bowl is huge and very filling.  Most people don't finish the whole bowl.  Sauces are provided to mix in the pho and in a dish to dip the meat in.  The meat is flavorful and doesn't require sauce but is even more delicious with the sauce.  To get the authentic experience try eating with chopsticks for the meat, noodles, and vegetables and the ladle type spoon for the broth.  The  price is $8.03 including tax, which might seem pricey for just soup but remember this will fill you up.  Many Asian places offer Pho but in the Provo - Orem area the Rice King Noodle House does it best.

Taco Bell Nachos Supreme

Taco Bell's Nachos Supreme cost around $3, it really depends on your location and if there is a deal going.  Sometimes these go for 99 cents.  This is what mine looked liked:

These nachos are pretty tasty but not at all healthy.  The cheese sauce is perfect and I eliminated the sour cream.  It would have been better if I also took off the refried beans but these are personal choices. The Bell Grande version is the same stuff but larger.  Tomatoes, which are included,  give it an even better taste.  I usually prefer shredded cheese nachos but Taco Bell has a great tasting cheese sauce.  Taking out the sour cream and refried beans will make this unhealthy snack somewhat more healthy.  The supreme version is for one person while the Belle Grande version is for sharing.

These new Doritos Nacho Cheese tacos are amazing.  The taste is excellent and quite a wonderful melding of two tasty products - chips and tacos.  I prefer the basic version without sour cream, but the Supreme version comes with that and tomatoes.  Your choice of hot sauce complements an already superb taco.  Simply my favorite taco ever.  The new Cool Ranch flavor is also reviewed on this blog.  The nutrition info is similiar for both.  This has 1 gram less total fat, but 10 more calories.  So very similar in that regard.  For similarity in taste see the Cool Ranch review!

Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco

The price for this, the basic version without sour cream, is $1.39 and tax.

Here is what it really looks like!

These new Doritos Locos tacos have been extremely successful to Taco Bell since the Nacho Cheese version was released last year.  The highly anticipated release for the Cool Ranch version has also been successful but it can't compare with the Nacho Cheese version.  It is good, tasty and interesting but it tastes like a slightly seasoned taco shell.  It is not quite as flavorful as the Nacho Cheese.  While it is worth a try, I probably will order the Nacho Cheese before the Cool Ranch.  For an extra 30 cents you get the Supreme style featuring sour cream and tomatoes.  Now we have to wonder if other Doritos flavors will be coming our way in taco shell farm.  Salsa Verde maybe?

In N Out is a place for burgers, fries, shakes, and soft drinks.  Simple. great tasting food.  I'm not overly fond of the fries, however, so I make mine cheese fries.  In N Out has a secret menu meaning you can tell them things you want not listed on their simple menu.  For instance you can make your fries animal style and it will come with burger sauce, pickles, and other seasonings.  The sandwich pictured above is a protein style cheeseburger, so basically a lettuce wrap.  It is very tasty and a bit healthier to make up for the cheese fries.  The lettuce is thick and wrapped well around the burger and fixings so it is a perfect replacement for the bun.  No fork is needed.  Prices vary by location but my meal with an extra large drink was just over $7.

Siegfried's Delicatessen German Food

For $6.99 you can fill up on a delicious German meal at Siegfried's Delicatessen in downtown Salt Lake City. The address is 20 W 200 E.  The cafeteria style flow is easy to navigate once you decide what you want.  You can order hot, ready to eat food or you may order over 70 varieties of meat as well as cheese and bread from the deli counter.  There is also a selection of European chocolate, candy, condiments, and other items as part of a mini grocery store.  The hot food menu has different daily specials.  On the the day I went the special was Borsch soup for $4.99.  I got the sausage plate with 2 sides for $6.99.  The sausage I ordered was knackworst and the two sides were the red cabbage which was hot and delicious with an applesauce dressing mixed in and fried potatoes which were tasty as well.  There is an excellent selection of dessert as well.  I chose the marzipan cake and that was fantastic.  The white cake with raspberry and whipped cream filling is crowned with delicious marzipan icing.  Marzipan (pronounced mahts-z-pahn) is almond based and can be found in abundance in the candy section.  You can get it in bars and also "potatoes", which are little balls of heavenly deliciousness.  For a change try an authentic German restaurant like Siegfried's, you won't be disappointed.

HAZUKI Asian Cuisine

This post is about a 6 month old restaurant in the lower cafeteria area of Utah Valley University.  Hazuki is an Asian fusion place that offers up rice and noodle bowls with chicken, shrimp, and a variety of sauces such as curry, ginger, and teriyaki.  Meat includes hibachi chicken which is the the healthiest and tastiest option, as well as tempura chicken (pictured below) and tempura shrimp. Toppings include peanuts, green onions, and crunchy noodles.  The prices are $5.95 for a bowl and it's very filling.  They also serve pork or vegetable egg rolls.  This part of the lower cafeteria has always been problematic.  Chik-Fil-A was too expensive, Wolverine Wok had poor quality and terrible tasting Asian food, Teriyaki Stix was too plain and only temporary.  This current place, Hazuki, is very tasty and filling and the prices are fairly reasonable.  It is worth a try.  The problem is the hours.  It is only open til 2pm and so the late afternoon and evening crowd of students, faculty, and staff miss out on the new Asian cuisine.  It is a delicious alternative to the sandwiches, pizza, and Mexican food also offered in the same area, but which is served til the evening hours.
